You may now boldly comment where you've never commented before!

I like Haloscan but for along time was thinking I'd write my own commenting system. Today I decided to support the system I like so I've made a donation to Haloscan (and encourage others to do the same). The benefit to you is that now you may comment up to 3000 words (comment spammers rejoice) and no advertisements appear in the comment window. Domestic Psychology is also the same way.

Sometimes it feels like we are on Prime Time.

Here's a "that happens to other people" event: One of our neighbors and father of our daughter's good friend just got deported to the Philippines after a 7 year battle to try to gain citizenship. Apparently INS just "showed up" yesterday and took him away.

Wow! Did he have time to pack? What happens when he arrives back at the islands? Could you imagine?

Desires

There is an expression "I want it so badly I can taste it." So, just how badly have you ever wanted something?

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you hurt?
So badly that it distracted you from everything else?
So badly that you were physically ill?

What of trust?
Have you ever wanted something so badly that you were willing to lose someone's trust?

What of sacrifice?
Have you ever watned something so badly that to have it briefly you were willing to give it up forever?

When it comes to wants, needs and cravings, what factors into self-restraint versus self-indulgence? Is it simply a matter of strong versus weak? Survival of the fittest? Moral versus immoral? What gives the preacher will power and the drug addict none? What allows one child the steal candy from the store and another child to ask for desert and happily accept no as an answer?

Where are our boundaries and how are they built?

This tells me I need to model myself after my wife, Tim, and South Knox Bubba who all have nicely formatted sites with great content and a psuedo-regular pattern to their posts.

Ah! Let's not forget Big Orange Michael, Hula Dula, and.. wow.. there are so many! I shall have to create a huge list during my next break.

Poem - On Stage

Oh It's like a game.
The Teachers try to teach
     the meaning behind Arthur's play
But it is cruel.
The Teachers know the rules.
We cannot be told until after school
But when the final bell has rung
We are gone and a new class has begun
That cannot be told until after school.
So while in class we ponder the moral behind Arthur's play
So we can make our report and make an A.
Then after school has come
And we are eager to get out and have our fun.
But no one is there to remind us that Arthur's play has begun.
We get out and make our calls to impress the Boss
And all the while Cliff's notes sit at home.
Why do we not remembe the moral of the play
from day to day after school?
Then sometime when it is far too late
Perhaps sitting in a bar being contemplative
We will think of Arthur's play
And recognize our after school fate.
Arthur tried to teach us early
That we are all destined to play a role.
And we shall all be Willy in his Play.

Spy Journal Tips

If you haven't checked out Tim's tips pages yet you should have a look at Spy Journal Excel Tips, Spy Journal Blog Tips, and Spy Journal Tech Tips.

Below is a reprint of a Spy Journal Blog Tip that I contributed. The tips found on Spy Journal Blog Tips are all well written and worth checking out by all bloggers.

How do I change my cursor?
Note: The techniques in the article should work in most modern browsers. To see examples in action hold your mouse over any word with text that is not in a regular font (such as emphasized or bold)

In CSS Positioning the acronym CSS has a faint line beneath it and placing the mouse pointer over it changes the cursor (in most browsers) to an arrow with a question mark. How was this done?

First I should comment that I am amazed to find that in nearly a decade of coding websites I still find basic HTML elements that for one bad habit or another I either do not use or have overlooked. I now make an effort to periodically review the basics. The W3C has invaluable reference material concerning Internet specifications and W3Schools is an absolutely wonderful place to review a skillset or develop a new one for free.

What is the difference between an abbreviation and an acronym? Dictionary.com gives the following definitions:
abbreviation
A shortened form of a word or phrase used chiefly in writing to represent the complete form, such as Mass. for Massachusetts or abbr. for abbreviation.
acronym
A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging.

The W3C in section 9.2 Structured Text devotes a sub-section to Phrase elements. These include: EM, STRONG, DFN, CODE, SAMP, KBD, VAR, CITE, ABBR, and ACRONYM. In this article alone I have made use of EM, STRONG, DFN, CODE, CITE, ABBR, and ACRONYM.

Now that we have learned or relearned some basic HTML, let's combine it with some CSS to create a working example. Let's use the acronym CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) as our example. Since this is an acronym and not an abbreviation we will use the HTML <acronym>:
<acronym>CSS</acronym>
That changed the appearance but didn't give us text. The text is added with the title atttribute.
<acronym title="Cascading Style Sheets">CSS</acronym>
Now if we hover our mouse over CSS for a second or two the words "Cascading Style Sheets" appear. What about the cursor? The cursor needs to be done with, ironically enough, CSS. We will use an inline style in our example and discuss alternatives in a different article.
<acronym title="Cascading Style Sheets" style="cursor:help;">CSS</acronym>
Abbreviations (definitions etc) can all be done the same way.
<abbr title="Street" style="cursor:help;">St.</abbr>

In upcoming articles, I will discuss:
  • different ways to define the style for this method
  • pointer options

The inspiration for this article came from frequent visits to Terreus who uses this technique and inspired me to ask "How does he do that?!" Terreus has to be one of the most exceptional well marked up sites I have visited in recent times. Kudos to the developer!

I hate my line of work sometimes. Imagine Monet working in a shared studio on a team project. You have the draft canvas where you work out ideas and as they are finalized and approved they are moved into the museum for display. Now imagine another artist on the team accidentally works in the museum instead of the studio and to fix the problem decides to throw away all the studio canvases and copy the museum canvases into the studio.

That's what just happened to me. Effectively a two day set back...or, two days of my life thrown away for naught. And this happens all the time in the technology business.

This Morning
Oh the bed was so warm and comfortable! I really didn't want to move.

Last night I did that thing my wife didn't want me to do. Well... I cleaned (that she wanted) It was not cleaning in the sense that anything got tossed. I re-organized in the bedroom. Basically I made the woodstove usable. Then I did that thing she didn't want me to do. I climbed up on the roof at midnight to look down the flue. Man it was dark. I turned my light out to stare at the stars and absolutely could not see the edge of the roof. Felt like I was flying!

The fire burned until 3:30am. I stoked it but didn't have the energy to make it rip roaring. I could not convince myself to stay up either. This is going to be a long day.

Progress!

Court done.
Client 2 progress.
Dry wall at friend's house progress.
Next support group.
Followed by computer repair.

Geeks toppled

Ugh!

I had my day! No I get 30 more.

I went before the judge over my bogus traffic citation. Interesting day. Better than CourtTV.

So, I'm driving down the road trying not to get too worked up over this and regreting having not subpoenaed the tape to see just how innocent or guilty I was. I get to the parking garage and see that all day parking is going to cost me $5 (add it to the court costs!). At least I had some fun in the garage. A wrong turn made me pass a particular truck three times. The roar of the Jeep was so loud that it set the truck's alarm off two out of the three passes! Btw, improperly working equipment on a vehicle is $67.50 per incident (tail light, muffler, etc). Better get that fixed soon!

I go to the City County Building and see the line of people waiting to go through the metal detectors and knowing darn well I don't have time to get to the car and back I just drop my two pocket knives, the ones I meant to leave in the Jeep, into the plastic tray to see if they'll pass. At the Duncan Federal Building they aren't concerned about pocket knives. They don't pass. The officer picks them up and I beg him to let me take them back to the car but unlike the airport they don't confiscate they just put them in an envelop that you get on your way out. Little did I know my way out would be in 3.5 minutes.

The administrative person at Circuit court says, "I think you are supposed to be behind the Coliseum but check with Sessions court." Session court admin confirms that I have to get back to street level, then to the Jeep, pay for parking and get a half mile down the road in 3 minutes. I wonder if they'll excuse a speeding ticket because you were "trying to get to court on time."

Parking: $1 and, oh no, a one way turn to the right. My bridge sits beside the parking garage to the left but is only accessible by monthly parkers. So right it is and rewarded by downtown construction--closed road! Forced to the right again. Oh good. That will put me on the parkway and I can get off at Summit Hill for a quick shot down the road and into the police station parking lot. One thing. There is no exit ramp for Summit Hill so its either Magnolia or the Interstate to Asheville. Alright. Magnolia and a U-turn to get back onto the parkway...only, the exit to Magnolia is right turn only. Ok. Backroads, gut feelings and guesses. By some miracle I get to the police station at 9:03 for my 9:00am court and the session has not begun. I even have time for a pit stop and urinal conversation with another traffic violator.

** to be continued **

Time's up!

Not even sure I have time to get to the courthouse on time now. I wonder if they would excuse a speeding ticket to make court on time.

Weekend Visitors

My folks and sister were in town this weekend. The kids love getting to see them! They also love the tons of candy that was dropped on them as a Halloween gift. We really had a great visit. I wish it could happen more frequently.

Found Book

Sabrina, call me about picking up this book.

Tom and Jerry

I'm happy to see that the normally elusive cat is hanging out in the kitchen despite the morning traffic. It's practically allowing itself to be walked over.

I'm a little disturbed for the reason it is so interested in the kitchen. Apparently the cold weather has already brought our winter batch of mice in. I was sitting here typing and saw the cat wrestling with the mouse. Unfortunately it got away. I am thrilled that this cat has decided to earn its keep.

Progress! (but not quite enough)

Much programming was had! I have several hours of administrative work to do before my day can begin but the day is already beginning. Stress stomach ho!

Woke at 3am to Michael (amz). That's such a good movie! I lay in bed fighting the urge to go back to sleep and rose in time to walk the dog (who went to the door asking to be let out, did her biz and came straight back in!) and still get to work by 3:30. As anxious I as I want to be, getting up this early really keeps my stress level down.

Despite the nature of this day, I think things will go well.

Styling Your Site with Abbreviations and Acronyms

I just wrote an article for Spy Journal Blog Tips discussing how to use <abbr> and <acronym> as Terreus frequestly does. I'll slip into one of the seven deadly sins and exude a little pride in the write-up and encourage each of you to take a look.

I highly recommend anyone doing any time of web publishing get a decent an html quick reference (amz).

Brisk

It's 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4° C) outside right now. Very crisp. There is a small sliver of ultra bright white moon in the sky. The stars are extra sharp and out in mass. The sky seems clear of all pollution and obstruction. As I walked the inlaw's dog (here for the weekend), I could not keep my eyes from gazing at the sky. It felt as though I could reach up and pluck stars from the darkness.

I love it when the air feels so crisp! I am not so thrilled when the heat pump goes out as it noisily did last night.

I'm a bit stressed today. I really need to not go into the office and work on other focuses but we have to deliver today. It's like all my milestones are falling on the same day. I need a couple of new monitors downstairs. The two I have are getting so dark that at times I can barely read them. That has to be impacting my productivity.

A New Day!

Let's start the day off with a PayPal donation link:

This Morning
What a great start to the day! I woke at 3am with energy but went back to bed. Considered getting up at 4 and finally rose at 5:30 to bathe and get ready before the kids. Got Tommy up and bathed and now he wanders the house reeling in the pleasure of not having to groggily rush out the door.

It's raining outside. I'd rather not drive into the office today. I'm torn. I have so much to do and so little time! Throw in complications like meetings and appointments. Monday evening: soccer
Tuesday evening: ----
Wednesday evening: STAR
Thursday evening: Scouts
Friday evening: soccer
Saturday evening: ----
Sunday evening: D&D for Tommy
I should be working like a 16 hour day. 24 hours in the day. Minus 2 hours for each evening event leaves 22 hours. Minus 2 hours in the morning getting the kids off to school leaves 20 hours. Minus 8 hours sleep leaves 12 hours. Wait a minute. That should be less. Minus 5 hours sleep leaves 15 hours. Minus 2 hours for driving and other unexpected things. Leaves 13 hours. Minus 1 hour for preparing and eatting dinner in the evenings leaves 12 hours. Minus 1 hour for lunch bathroom breaks etc leaves 11 hours. That's not bad. I should be able to accomplish a lot in 11 hours.

Actions Louder than Words

Nicky makes a good point. Let's not talk politics anymore. Our path for the next four years has been laid however we need not allow our civil liberties to be swept out from underneath us. A call to all Americans regardless of party views! Step up to the plate. For the next 4 years (and hopefully the rest of your life), write letters, make phone calls, send emails and be a part of the political process. When legislation is proposed, make your views known! Be an active American not a passive one!

Oh this sums it up!

Just had a conversation with a "Bush Supporter." Her quote:
"I'm a Bush supporter." pause "I really don't understand that much about politics."

I was speechless.

Let's have conspiracy!

So for fun, let's step into GW Bush's head for a minute. Let's add in a few prime time quality flash backs and replay some dialogs that Junior has had.

Senior's End of Term
GW: "Daaddee. It ain't right that you didn't get another term."
Sr: "That is how the political process works son."
GW: "But it tain't right. You watch! I'm gonna get your Cold War back! I promise!"

Flashback Pre-Election 2000
GW: "Daaddee. I thinks I wanna run fer president."
Sr: "Son. I don't think you have what it takes."
GW: "Daaddee. It looks like a lot of fun. Neat toys! You can make some calls right?"
Sr: "Sure son. But you are going to have to listen to everything I tell you."

Flashback Election 2000
GW: "I'm gonna lose! This ain't right."
*ring ring*
Jeb: "Hullo."
GW: "Jeb. Yer the gov'ner. Make those votes right or I'll tell everyone about that time I found you and Charlie nachid."
Jeb: "Fixed."

Flashback Pre-election 2004
GW: "This doggoned divided House and Senate makes my job hard."
*ring ring*
CIA: "Thank you for calling the CIA. We fix things! Can I help you?"
GW: "Make sure that House and Senate is mostly Republicans."
*checks polls*
GW: "This son of a gun has a chance!"
*ring ring*
CIA: "Thank you for calling the CIA. We fix things! Can I help you?"
GW: "How good are you at counting?"
CIA: "Good enough to tell you that you don't need to pack your things for at least another 4 years."

Flashforward Pre-election 2008
CIA: "Oh! Hello George!"

Political - Another Great Summary

Tom Maszerowski of My Likes and Dislikes has a fantastic Summary worth a read!

Message to Youth

I cannot find the statistics to back this up at the moment but I heard that only 20% of 18-22 year olds bothered to show up and vote. Apparently the parties and protests are more important than their futures.

I cry out to you "this is your country! It is your responsibility to step up and knowledgably decide what type of country you wish to live in." Put down your toys and better prepare yourself for the 2008 election (if there is one) so that when the other 80% of you are 22-26 perhaps you will take your future more seriously, study the issues, and make an effort to see this country governed instead of dictated.

Political

Great summary on BoingBoing.
Four more years of a nation led by criminals. Dan Gillmor sums up what this means for America.
Here is CNN's election results map

Save America!

I have an idea! Let's look at the numbers and in the states that democrats don't stand a chance let's move them to states that were borderline. We have 4 years to work to save America and democracy! By 2008 we should have been able to shuffle enough democrats around to fix this horrible condition of having a Republican controlled House AND Senate!

Do you understand the implications of having a nutcase sitting in the veto seat while the House and Senate are totally run by rich Republicans? Add to that the replacement of a Supreme Court Justice by the same nutball. Welcome back to the Middle Ages folks! You've just voted yourselves into a feudal system.

Know the science?

Cool video! The video is work safe but the site has some porn banners and links to adult oriented sites. The video shows a cornstarch mixture. When the liquid is vibrated different behaviors are demonstrated by blowing air into the mixture. The first example shows a hole that is formed and never collapses despite the air being removed. The 2nd example shows the interaction of 3 such holes. I would expect them to combine into one instead they bounce off each other. The 3rd (at higher vibrations) holes don't form but fingers form from the liquid and double as they topple over on themselves. Very interesting!

Political

I like this pledge on Instapundit.

Glen Reynolds words "...and I think that Kerry should consider whether he wants to concede gracefully or become a second Al Gore." just get my ire. I remember the previous election. It was Bush that failed to concede the election gracefully. I contend that if GW's brother was not the governor of Florida that these past 4 years would have been drastically different. Al Gore did the right thing and should have pushed it further!
These words by South Knox Bubba are near Pulitzer.

This Morning
These election results are horrible! This election is tight. Perhaps this is why I get so frustrated with people from time to time. Slightly over 50% of the people I run into do not think like I do. Perhaps it is time to move to New England or California.

Mark my words. If Bush takes this election, he will immediately start procedures to seek a third term. He is the closest thing to a dictator this country has ever seen and with near a decades time in office and the ability to appoint a supreme court justice he will make changes to America that will take decades to undo. Your grandchildren will never know the freedoms you knew.

Should we not be listening when Washington DC has only 9% of its voters decide on Bush?

"I don't want knowledge. I want certainty."

Election Results

Yahoo has a nice election results map. I find this interesting because they are coloring in states on certain confidences. At this moment, 19% of the precincts in North Carolina have reported with 57% going to Bush and 43% to Kerry so they have colored the map red. At this same moment, 52% of Florida precincts have reported with 53% Bush and 46% Kerry so they refuse to color the state. Only 2% of Maine precincts have reported with 51% Kerry and 47% Bush so they have colored it Blue. Do the other 98% not count?!

Don't get too stressed while watching the news coverage.

Huffing - Canned Air (reprint)

(I still see regular hits in the stats on this) I probably get a hit a day to my blog from people searching for information on "tetrafluoroethane huffing". I don't know if these are concerned parents or experimenters looking for instructions on how to do it safely. THERE IS NO SAFE WAY!

Live healthy, eat healthy and you will have natural buzzes that beat anything a substance can give you!

My original post from April appears in the box below.
I had a question about my "canned air" reference. This is neat stuff. The chemical composition is 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (at least in the Fellowes brand that I buy). It's a chemical under pressure that is typically used to blow dust out of computers. If you turn it upside down the chemical will spray out in liquid form and can freeze ants or be used to remove bubble gum stuck to something.

I found it interesting that when I bought this at Walmart I had to have an "age verification" which severely slowed me down at the self-serve checkout. This forum discusses the "blackouts" and "paralysis" caused by huffing canned air. Would You Know If Your Child Was "Huffing"? (scroll down to see article. Note 1999 publish date.)

This Morning
I juggled for roughly 2.5 hours straight at the church's Trunk or Treat event last night. There were significantly few cars than last year. I could not judge the number of people because I had spot lights on me most of the evening. Today my arms feel like rubber, my back is telling me I should be streatching regularly, and my gluts don't hurt as much as they did last night and are actually probably better off for the event. We had one casuality during the show I asked for an adult volunteer and accidentally ended up with a child. This is for the routine I juggle knives over the person (actually, I juggle rubber chickens over them after convincing them it will be knives and blindfolding them). Since it was a child I turned the microphone off and forewarned her of what was to come (sometimes I have to do that for the adults too). She relaxed and enjoyed herself until she left the stage and fell on the stairs onto her hip. I was mortified! But she was ok.

The torches always draw a huge crowd. This performance I actually burned myself! A rarity. I was being stupid and as the volunteer held the torches, me standing on a rola bola (a board atop a pvc pipe), I lit the two torches closest to me then reached through the flames to light the third. It was a stunt that no one in the audience could follow and only endangered myself. Schtupid!

I would like to do more practices and more performances. Come on lottery!

An eyeful a day keeps the doctor away

My stats are showing many searches for the "Jonathan Hayter" article which declared "staring at women's breasts is good for men's health." So I followed the original link to the newspaper clipping and sure enough the image is gone. Well, having the foresight and the ability to recognise this as a cute Photoshop job, I saved a copy of the "article" for prosperity and now that it has disappeared from its source, I re-present it to you! Posted by Hello

The scouts sleeping with the fishes. Tommy in the foreground Noah at the opposite end just out of the picture. This is the tunnel in the Ripley's Aquarium in the Smokies. Normally a moving sidewalk that takes you under the shark tank. On this night it was a hotel for the scouts. It was very cool! Posted by Hello

Dreams

I had this bizarre dream last night that we were living in this upscale zero lot line neighborhood and my wife decides to open our house up as a deli. Suddenly the house has 14 foot ceilings, is brightly lit, and has little square tables all over the place with huge bottles of ketchup on each one. Our success booms and the desire to eat our food brings people in by the droves. We had never intended it to be more than serving a few people and stress comes as we start to worry that the health inspector will learn of our restaurant, discover we are working without permits, see our dust bunnies, and kick us out of our house.

From the Mouths of Babes

Other things a two year old should not know how to say: "Daddy, don't step in Molly's poop!" not that she should not be able to grasp the words. The dog should not be doing that in the house!

Amy now is playing nicely with one of her dolls and chattering up a storm. She has such a great imagination!

Boo!

This Morning
Last night Tommy and I went to Cherokee Caverns (broken link atm) Haunted Cave (coupon) which has an interesting history (broken link atm). Apparently this off the beaten track cave was a popular attraction with the landowner's house and restaruant sitting atop the cave entrance until in 1980 when a fire burned the structures to the ground. Why in 24 years something wasn't rebuilt to showcase this beautiful cave eludes me. The formations are still mostly intact. Unfortunately, vandals have broke many of the stalactites but still not enough to ruin the cave for visitors.

The visitors were all very appropriate. No blatant drunkness. No sweet, musty smells. One adult couple (my age or older) had some laughable, rather innocent fun in the line. I think I was the only one to notice. She wore overalls. He was standing behind her hugging her but his right hand was inside the overalls down to her crotch and it was making pulsing motions. Her right hand covered her crotch like a small boy with a strong urge to pee and she had an ear to ear calm grin.

The ghouls did an awesome job. I was apprehensive because I was told that the cave was an adult experience but most of the line consisted high schoolers then there was a large contingent of 6-8 year olds. Overall the event was well done but not too scary. Our overprotective society no longer allows ghost and ghouls to physically touch their victoms so the classic surprise brushes are gone. Tommy and I pulled up the rear with the guide. I was introduced to our group of 20 or so scare victoms by the guide and throughout the tour she called to me to see if the tail was still with the group. At one point we did a trust exercise where we had to put our hands on the shoulders of the person in front of us (so Tommy was holding onto a stranger) and we walked through the pitch black of a pit full of snakes. We stepped on snakes. They bit out of ankles and hisses in our ears. Upon exiting the snake pit we stepped on a platform that vibrated so violently that I thought the roof might cave it. I expected to see the lady in overalls lying on it. I would give the Haunted Cave a recommendation for 10 years and older and a consideration for any 6 year old and older that is well adjusted and knows what to expect. Cost: $8 per person ($1 coupon handed out at the event by The Humane Society) children may be cheaper..I didn't ask.

Outside the cave the ghouls had fog machines that poured the fog into 2 foot (.6 meter) sqaure boxes. The back panel was made of something flexible (cloth perhaps) and the front had a circle cut in it. When the back was slapped with a hand the box would fire a smoke ring 25-30 feet (7.6-9 meters). From this distance you could feel the air wack you as one cannon made fun by firing smoke rings into the crowd standing in line (we probably had 40-60 or more people in front of us and an equal number showed up behind us with more pouring in as we left). There was a child's tent with some games (I assume this helps if a child has to be removed for being to scared). Beverages and food were available.

Much fun was had! Tommy behaved exceptionally! Twice he tried to turn to complaining (smoke and boredom in the line) but after a reminder to speak only nice things we had no more complaining.

Bush Administration Acknowledges Grand Canyon was made by Noah's flood not geologic forces

Washington, DC — The Bush Administration has decided that it will stand by its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah’s flood rather than by geologic forces, according to internal documents released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).

Health

My heart feels funny today. Its like I have very shallow breathing. And my stress is down so its not anxiety.

Into the Mouths of Babe

Amy discovered she can make it up and down the stairs. She also discovered the bucket of candy I received on my birthday. She has now discovered that the gate at the top of the stairs is mounted a little too high and she has forced half her body under it. I had mounted it at the upper bounds so the cat could get under it I suppose I need to correct that. I fear she will be going over it soon.

Free Sex Revolution Round 2

Welcome back 1970s style sexual freedom!

A chemical specially designed to thwart how the AIDS virus invades during sex offers scientists a new lead in the long quest for a vaginal gel that women could apply to protect themselves when men don't use a condom.
Wait a minute? A gel? This business gets messier by the minute! And this gel doesn't protect against the array of other STDs out there. Oh! And the big one. It doesn't prevent pregnancy. (I guess the other big thing is its only been tested on monkeys but you know.. give a guy enough beer and...)

Ok. So maybe this isn't a sexual revolution but it should noted that this is a landmark development in the field of AIDs research!

Plug into Broadband!

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday approved rules for transmitting broadband communications signals over electric power lines... Wahoo! If I recall right the science behind this promises 10gigabit transmissions! And your house is already wired with it in every room, the garage, the basement and the storage shed!

Traffic Woes

Speeding Clapton Loses Driver's License

Eric Clapton won't be driving in France for a while. Police said they clocked the rock star speeding down a highway at 134 mph and suspended his license.
...
Police confiscated Clapton's British driver's license, suspending his right to drive in France.

Clapton, 59, took the bad news well, agreeing to a photo session with police.

After paying a $922 fine, he then rolled away in his Porsche this time in the passenger seat with his secretary behind the wheel...
Well, if Clapton can take it in stride I suppose I can humble my way through this citation over the stop sign...

Controlling the Environment

Wahoo! Yesterday: 0 caffiene intake!
Today: No caffiene so far. Cutting out sound too. Wearing ear plugs that reduce noise by 20db. I wish I had some airport style ear muffs to go over them. It's interesting when you cut out the white noise because your ears ring hard for awhile. I think the ringing is always there we just don't notice it because of the amount of noise we process.

Don't Drink Tea and Drive

Kava Tea will get you a DUI. Apparently kava tea acts as an antianxiety drug. I think I'll be getting some!

"We're cracking down on DUI drivers," Feasel said. "Whether it's driving under the influence of kava, or a good merlot or Advil, you're going to be prosecuted."
Ok. Don't take Advil and drive in California! Point taken.

Progress

Sometimes my coding feels like I'm walking through a swamp. I just can't type as fast I as I think and design. None-the-less, I've made progress on my European client today.

Time to switch gears to some brief marketing followed by work for my local client.

Seeking the NT Password

I seem to be getting a lot of traffic from people looking for information about Austrumi.

If you are having trouble finding "nt_pass" in the GUI quit looking because its not there. As you boot, before you get to the GUI (xwindows I think), press the space bar then type "nt_pass" (without the quotes) and press enter. You may or may not see the boot prompt as you do this. After you do that you will get a menu instead of the GUI.

Here are some discussion forums for Austrumi.

Another invaluable resource is the Ultimate Boot CD ( windows version here ).

This Morning
I went to bed to hide last night and hid well until this morning. The hiding spot was warm and comfortable and I did not want to leave its security. If I had the luxury to do so, I'd have a total meltdown today.
